A BRETON WITH A TWIST
Meet Romy, the top and dress sewing pattern that puts a playful spin on everyday staples. With its relaxed fit and distinctive high slash neckline, Romy is a comfortable, versatile design you can sew as a classic Breton-style top, a casual T-shirt or an easy-to-wear dress.
Make it your own with optional back ties or contrast binding for a pop of colour. Choose cap, three-quarter-length or full-length sleeves to create a version for any season, and sew it in your favourite suitable stretch knit fabric.
Romy is designed to be sewn on either a regular sewing machine or an overlocker (serger), making it a useful project for developing your knit fabric sewing skills. Wear your handmade top with jeans for everyday outfits, or style the dress with trainers, sandals or tights and boots as the seasons change.

Medium-weight low-stretch knit fabrics, such as jersey or interlock. You could also use ponte for the long-sleeve version. Avoid anything too lightweight, drapey or clingy. If you're making the back-tie version, avoid anything too bulky.

I made a top out of a stretchy knit as a trial and then a dress out of french terry.
I sized down two sizes and had a perfect fit. I had some difficulty matching and fitting the shoulder pieces and basting it together on my dress form really helped. A video or better photos in the instructions would really have been helpful. I am a very experienced sewer, and I managed to figure it out. I lowered the front top neckline one inch and it fell very nicely.
Overall, I am very pleased with these two makes. They are casual, comfortable and really cute. They are very unique and fun to wear!
